I am Radio Free Salem, the non-commercial community FM radio station that will exist at 88.5 FM in the South Salem area and will hopefully reach into all of the Salem-Keizer region and down towards Albany.

Our Goals

We plan to transmit at 88.5 FM from a tower in Turner, OR with a 5-mile (or so) radius. We will probably also simulcast over the internet. We’re still not sure where the broadcast studios will be, but they will likely be somewhere in SE Salem.

What Will We Broadcast?

Well, we are all about DIVERSITY and COMMUNITY OWNERSHIP. We want to give a voice to those who are not given a voice in mainstream media - namely, local cats with engaging ideas and/or news. And then there's the MUSIC... the kind that you won't hear on commercial radio. Pull out your record collections because anything goes. The station will evolve as people from the Mid-Willamette Valley step up to offer their music and thoughts to the rest of us.

NEWS UPDATE - September 4, 2008

Radio Free Salem has been awarded a construction permit! This means that our radio station license will be granted soon and we are now able to raise funds and organize to set up the station!
